Eye of the Collector – Financial Times

Henrik Godsk is currently exhibiting at Eye of the Collector. The fair – known for mixing artists from different periods in a single display, includes works by modernists such as Frank Auerbach and Lucian Freud. Eye of the Collector opens on 26 June at the Garrison Chapel, Chelsea Barracks in London.

Financial Times – “Around town – All eyes on Chelsea”:

“For its fourth edition, the Eye of the Collector fair is moving from the stained- glass, mahogany-walled Astor mansion at Two Temple Place to Chelsea Barracks’s Garrison Chapel, built in 1859. Despite being deconsecrated in 1990, the Grade II-listed space still has an atmosphere of reverence, something founder Nazy Vassegh wants to be central to the fair’s concept. Vassegh, who spent 19 years at Sotheby’s, established Eye of the Collector to break away from galleries presenting in booths, instead installing the art and design throughout the space. This year, Vassegh has selected 100 pieces – and 50 more online – from 61 artists in 20 countries, in pursuit of a more international offering. Among the new commissions is work by Danish artist Henrik Godsk (Vigo Gallery), who began renovating facades for his family’s travelling fair at age seven. His oil paintings have a bright graphic simplicity. Works by Frank Auerbach (Tanya Baxter Contemporary) and Lucian Freud (Julian Page Gallery) will also feature: a charcoal and chalk ‘Head of Christopher Dark’ (1977, £225,000) by Auerbach and Freud’s etching ‘Blond Girl’ (1985, £37.500).”
